- William Sarah changed the family name to Sarra, in 1904, after his children were born but before the boys went to public school.
He started the Redruth Drapery Store around 1883.
This expanded into the West End Departmental Stores, buying the property in Redruth during the 1st world war while it was burning down. He extended this to three or four other Cornish towns, acquiring a good fortune. His will tied the money to the business till the end of the second generation.
